Once, you held me in your arms
Now I hold you in my heart.
Crying lonesome tears-
Everywhere, I still see your face.
Once
You dreamt of me
Now I pray for you.
Circling my fingers around your soul.
Everything I had planned—broken.
Once
You showed me love
Now there’s nothing inside of me but revulsion.
Coping—memories I wish to erase,
So I may be at peace.
Once
I held you above
Now that you’re gone, distress
Is the reflection in my life, but
That’s life, so I forgive you.

I like that you were able to forgive at the end of this. You may not have received forgiveness in return, but that’s no reason not to give your own forgiveness. Forgiveness matters more to you, than to the person you are forgiving.
I sound like such a retard, but I think you know what I meant to say!
Lol, no you’re almost on the right track.
This poem is really about learning how to forgiven and what forgiveness really means. They spent their whole life planning their future. Without him, there’s no future for her, he is her life. Then he goes ahead and dies. After the sadness and depressions there’s anger toward life, toward death from taking him away from her. In the end she realizes that she’s ashamed of her behavior and that in order to move on she needs to forgiven her self for feeling the way she did. With the forgiveness comes an understanding that life is death, you can’t have one without the other. In the end she realizes that you only live once. To forgive someone is not really about them but rather about you moving on and finding an inner peace.
“To forgive someone is not really about them but rather about you moving on and finding an inner peace.”
Brilliant, Sugar. This poem and that particular line in your response to JPD came along at a perfect time in my life.
Thank you.
