Determination
Written by jpd
I feel that my life is determined
I see the green swaying leaves through an open window
I hear the cries of the birds chattering brightly
Feel the warm breeze blowing across my face
The scents of chaff and pollen that tickle my soul
I feel that my life is determined
In ways that I will never understand
The sun suddenly shining twice as brightly
Re-doubling the rich sea of swaying green leaves before me
My life is determined, I think
By the fluttering of my window drapes
The cry of sparrows and the soft pattering of feet
The splashing of wildlife across mirrored ponds
I feel that my life is determined
To never have enough
To always come this close…
To almost love
My life is determined
It calls to me with the cries of birds
In the distant babbling of glacial brooks
With the faintest flapping of butterfly wings
It pulls at me constantly
My heart racing wildly
My cheeks stretched wide in smiling wonder
With determination

Well done! I would say this is your loveliest poem I read so far. It flows so easily and the images are portray so easily.

wow MR. Donnelly, i must say once again you swept me away. i think that is your happiest poem/song yet. i must say this side to you is truely one you should explore. “My life is determined
It calls to me with the cries of birds
In the distant babbling of glacial brooks
With the faintest flapping of butterfly wings” that is my favourite paragraph.

Thanks KK! U know the funny part of these comments is that I don’t consider this a happy poem… To me, the emphasis was that “my life is determined to never have enough” etc. All that is left to me is an open window and my own imagination.
But these thoughts are what get me through my day, so in that way the poem works. I’m glad you both enjoyed it.

never giving up i believe is a good character trait, the will to live the determination to move forward all good things, i guess from reading all your other poems this one is defferent in the sense that you have hope, theres a twinkle if your eye that wasnt there before. they way you describe the “faintest flapping of butterfly wings” or “The splashing of wildlife across mirrored ponds” all amazing this things, things to smile about, to look forward to in life. reading this poem i smiled, i felt a contentness in the tone. and relaxed. maybe its just me and my corny ways but. i truely think this poem reflects a new you

Thanks, although I think both sides of my writing are still “me.” I don’t know that it’s a new me, but it is a side of me that has always been there, looking out the window..
You might have missed my song lyrics “A Pleasure” but they have that similar feeling.. I wrote it a long time ago (back when people sent paper letters instead of emails) LOL But I think you’d like it..
