Broken fire-red fingers
claw to a distantly fading morning –
the desperate scramble
to escape a crumbling ruin:
Night.
A vacuous event horizon,
exponential in pointing to collapse –
that critical moment
of an in-folding probability:
Black.
Hawks propose plausible flights of fancy
until their negation by uproarious hunter shouts –
their lofty tangents
crashing under gravity’s wrath:
Dead.
Earthbound on a spiral string
the final turbulent moments expand into chaos [...]

leaning against green hills.
Neatly tended lawns lay carpets of soft
and respectfully uniform sorrow
while watch tower trees are manned by keen observing birds
singing to pass the time.
Visitors are frequent, coming to browse the many headstones
sighing in sympathy with the loss of so many;
respectfully negotiating the tragic minefield

The fevered dance of common garden fly
busies about the creaking laburnum;
a mating rite, a dispute over territory.
Taking curious precedence over the crowded daisies
this ritual plays out to an old piano’s opus.
Envious magpies sweep by lacquered ivy;
green and swaying in a summer evenings breeze
the leaves are laminated in a soft, warming light
as playfully they jump to [...]

gently lifting the nights residue fog.
The harbour where peeling boats used to lean

A portrait uninterrupted, a fresco renewed with fresh breeze.
Through easy skies a playful bird dances a rhythm all to himself;
such a care-free fellow, no need for human quarrels.

each one a beautiful darkness, each one deep in their wonderment.
I could lose myself so happily in these waters and succumb to the blissful purity

a moments pause reflecting such
memories in Cheshire smiles.
Somehow silent while trapped in
luminous surround. Distant laughters
are audible to those that care
to lend an ear as trees shed summer
blossom, baring naked fragility to
ever extending winter, unafraid, unabashed.
A crowd now gathers to pay respect,
the funeral procession soon commencing.
Finally, these matters can rest in tomb undisturbed,

cold and double faced. The ponderous crush
of the unwieldy jackboot, the vacancy of heart.
Blinded to affliction and cruel throughout
jealous ignorance, swines with ulterior ambition
constantly plotting, to the utmost; The Back Dagger Treason.
Uproarious protest muted through loyalty,
the field marshal’s heart, heavy as the hooded blade,
falls ominously down, severing his protest.

The boiler room. Beads
and crackling tinder.
An old custodian, hunch backed
and stoking the tired flames;
flames that subdue in anticipation
of cool breeze and adolescence.
Now they rise, colourful and bright!
The old custodian sits,
content in this resolve; glowing
in an amber aspect.
And finally, he enjoys
the last private joke.

Depths beneath, dark, cold, yet tranquil.
Deceptive in this mirror image,
scorn engulfing entire fleets: so noble, so noble.
As night encroaches upon our time past,
your polished surface, as if in warning, gives way
to venomous ripples of displeasure.
Our concerto swells and
crashes to thunderous applause!
Misty settlements soak in your embrace.
